Why do you need to be good at anything?

First things first:

  • What does it mean to be good at anything?
  • Who defines what is good?
  • How can we improve something?
  • Which metrics are important?

What does it mean to be good at anything?

The definition of good varies from person to person, but when you really care about what you are doing, you at least try to improve and be above some standard. To be good needs to be comparable with someone else, so it means to be comparable with yourself, not others. Thus, do not try to be good compared with others. Just be yourself, do your best, and hopefully, everything is going to be fine.

Who defines what is good?

Everyone should have a definition of what is good for some tasks. For me, I try to beat myself up in some tasks, and I compare them with my outcomes before and after this improvement. The standard of good should be comparable with something that another person did and also some other stuff that you already did. In this sense, you can measure the improvement and the quality of the work using some standard metrics, like efficiency.

How can we improve something?

First, see the outcome with the skills that you have. Then, measure the performance with some metric. Finally, make a plan with points to improve and do the cycle again. This is the best machine learning thing that you can do to improve and gain skills in any field, such as gym, nutrition, or math…

Which metrics are important?

The metrics should be related to your final goals. Small improvements each day with consistency are better than a big jump that will be forgotten after months. So, try to keep going moving slowly but building momentum to achieve your goals.

Author’s final comment

This was my first blog post on my page to test the system and become more familiar with the tool. Everything I added here comes from my mindset, and I try to use it daily to improve some aspects of my life. I do not care too much if it is wrong, but it is what works for me. Thus, I will leave this post for my future self-improvement.
